Finding Your Village

Updated: Apr 22

Becoming a new mum can feel incredibly isolating, and reaching out for help isn’t always easy. The thought of walking into a new space, filled with unfamiliar faces, can be daunting. You might worry about being judged—about how you’re doing, how your baby is doing, or where your baby is “meant” to be.

The comparison trap is real.

But I want you to know this: there is a village out there for you. A group that will feel just right. A space where you can exhale and be met with understanding, not judgement. And the truth is, every mum in that room is likely feeling the same way you are.

If you try a group and it doesn’t feel like the right fit, that’s okay. You can try again. There are so many options—

playgroups, library rhyme time sessions, baby groups run by local health centres or hospitals, and free catch-ups through the Australian Breastfeeding Association.

You could reach out to your local health nurse, or even post in an online community for your area and ask where other mums are gathering.

And once you do find your people—those like-minded mums who just get it—you’ll start meeting up for coffee, house visits, or pram walks. And just like that, lifelong friendships can begin.

Because finding your village in real life is one of the most powerful supports you can have in your postpartum journey.

Online villages are beautiful too, especially if you live in a small or remote community. They’re a lifeline when in-person meetups aren't possible.

But if you can meet someone face-to-face—someone who looks at you and says, “me too”—it can truly change everything.

You deserve support, connection, and friendship, mama.

Your village is out there… waiting to welcome you. 💛
